Frequently Asked Questions

Stack of green jars with gold lids on a wooden shelf against a gray wall with a framed picture.

The product is 2 oz instead of 4 oz, what's up with that?

Two reasons:

1. This product should be used sparingly in the hair to achieve the best results. Using too much at one time in the hair, will not yield weightless flow and control. If used as intended, this 2 oz jar will last just as long as a 4 oz jar.

2. Macadamia Nut Oil is expensive. Per ounce, this is one of the most expensive products we've ever produced. Macadamia Nut Oil is a great hydrating oil that increases hair and scalp appearance. This gives our Clay Pomade a light and natural shine with flow and control

Is Clay Pomade water-based?

Not exactly. Clay Pomade is essentially an anhydrous hair styling product, meaning there is little to no water in the final mix. The primary "base" of this product is beeswax, bentonite clay, & kaolin clay, with the water concentration being low. It is what is typically called a "Hybrid Pomade." A Hybrid Pomade styles smooth, flowy and weightless like an oil-based pomade but washes out way easier like a water-based pomade because of the added water.

Should Clay Pomade be applied to wet or dry hair?

The Clay Pomade will yield the best results when applied to dry hair. For a little more shine and a neater look, it can be applied to lightly damp hair.

Applying Clay Pomade to wet hair is like putting ketchup in your ice cream. It doesn't work and you should never do it. This product is anhydrous, oil and water don't play well together. You will have a heck of a time spreading this product into your hair and then you will probably email me to complain. I warned you. Don't do it.

What's the difference between Clay Pomade & Matte Paste

The Matte Paste features a dry and matte finish that is best for choppy, messy and textured looks. The Clay Pomade features a light and natural shine that is best for weightless flow and control.

Good Clay

This is a good clay, holding well, but is a bit hard to emulsify to put on the hair. It wasn’t flaky and didn’t lose the hold. Scent is pleasant and the size of the container is adequate. It’s more like a straight-up clay than pomade. It would be perfect for a spike.

Easy hair clay

If you're like me and have thick stubborn hair, you know how difficult it is to manage and keep from looking like a porcupine. This hair clay works great. I warm up the product in the palms of my hand, then work into damp hair. Then I style my hair, and it holds all day with ease. My hair still feels nice, you can tell there's product in it but it isn't super greasy or crunchy feeling. The balm smells quite nice, a subtle fruity scent that doesn't linger.

🏎️ Quick Rec: This clay pomade is a decent option for those seeking a strong hold with a matte finish.✅ Pros ✅- Provides a strong and flexible hold.- Offers a natural, low-shine matte finish.- Has a fruity scent.- A little goes a long way.❌ Cons ❌- Can be difficult to scoop out of the container.- May be challenging to spread evenly in hands without added moisture.

Really fruity smelling, but otherwise great

I'm not entirely sure why this is a "pomade" clay, but in my experience, this operates pretty much like a clay. It comes as a hard, puck-like wax product, and is hard to pull out... Just like a clay.I use about a pinky-nail sized glob, work it in my hands for 20 seconds to hear it up, then apply it to lightly damp hair. It has a strong smell, but very tropical and fruity. Not at all masculine, just FYI. But it's not offensive by any means, just not my favorite. There is a medium-hold, but very, very little crispiness. I like that! The hold lasts most of the day, at least. It does a great job at taking frizz and flyaways. And, thankfully, it washes out with water. However, I would recommend washing your hair after no more than 2 days of use, just to be sure to clear the scalp of buildup. All in all, I'm really happy with this waxy clay styling product. If you don't mind the fruity smell, go ahead and buy some.

Solid without buildup

It takes a lot for me to give something 5 stars. I would consider this product to hit all my marks- it works, it's got a nice product design, it smells good, I want more.I have fine 3b curly hair, and most pomades tend to leave behind residue or feel heavy. I decided to try this clay pomade, and I’m super impressed. It’s thick when you scoop it out, so a little bit goes a long way. It does need a bit of warming up between the palms, but once it’s applied, it starts holding immediately. The hold is strong but still pliable, which works great for my texture. I love the smell, it’s clean and pleasant without being overpowering; and the fact that I don’t have to fully wash my hair between uses is a big plus. Usually, I just spritz a little water, and it reactivates perfectly. By the end of the day, my hair doesn’t feel greasy or stiff. It’s slightly dry but still feels moisturized overall. Definitely something I feel good about using daily.

smells good and works great with my hair

It's hard to scrape it out, and not convenient to work with if you have dry hands, especially you're in a hurry. I recommend using a tiny bit of water to emulsify the pomade before working it into the hair. The pomade works great once in, giving your hair a natural style and look, without the shininess that comes from using gel. It smells very fruity.

Good product for my son

This pomade holds well. My seven year old son used it. He said it's really sticky. It has a nice smell as well and a little goes a long way.
